Abamare Baquite Basket Xavante
These unique baskets are made with the stalk of the Buriti (Mauritia flexuosa) tree.
Before harvesting the natural material to produce them, the indigenous people must first hear the call from the forest that comes in a dream.
The dream reveals to them which tree wants to be harvested so they are guided to a specific part of the forest where they will find the plant that is ready to be material for the baskets.
These baskets are originally utilized to store seeds, food and plants that will serve the Xavante indigenous community in their everyday life.
We like to use it as our Farmers Market shopping basket, or as a picnic basket or a decorative piece.2

Care Instructions
Indigenous arts are made out of natural materials, and therefore require great tending and care. Please keep the pieces in a dry place and avoid long periods of sun exposure, especially for the art that contains colors in it. Remember that the stalk and fiber from plants tend to soften overtime and gain new shape as we wear them!
